Real difference between Shia Muslims and Sunni Muslims….reply by Aga Sayyed Mohammad Musawi

The following is a response by Sayyed Mohammad Musawi to a queation from a Sunni brother :
What are the differences between Shias and Sunnis ?
——————————————
1- One Religion:
Islam is One religion sent from Allah (swt) to all human beings as the last and final massege. It was never divided into different sects like Hanafi, Shafi’ee, Maliki , Hanbali,Wahabi, Sufi etc, but only because of people’s interference in the religion which is the word of Allah(swt). All previous religions suffered from the same problem of divisions upto the extent of loosing the real massege.Islam being the last and final massege from Allah(swt), was perserved by Allah (swt),so, Real Islam was kept and still remains and will remain intact, inspite of many divisions existing and even governing many Muslim countries.

2- The Prophetic Islam:

The Real Islam is the Prophetic Islam which was preached and practiced by the Prophet Mohammad (sawa) and His noble progeny (Ahlul Bayt a.s.) , and not any other Islamic sect, though Islamic sects have many Islamic practices, but The Complete Real Islam is non but the Islam of the Prophet (sawa) and Ahlul Bayt which existed originally from the begenning of Islam before any Islamic sect came to existance, and contineued till now through Ahlul-Bayt .

3-Who Leads Islam?:

The leadership of Islam after the Prophet (sawa) was the main subject on which division started.
The question is : Who appoints the successor of the Prophet to lead the Ummah ? Is it Allah who appoints ? or anybody from the people? Those who believed in Allah (swt) as the source and authority to appoint the divine leaders are the followers of Ahlul-Bayt , while Sunnis believed that Islamic leadership can come through group of individuals as what happened in Saqeefa, or one individual, as when Abu Bakr appointed Umar as a Khalifah after him,or just six individuals from the whole Ummah as Umar appointed six to select one of them, or to be killed if they were unable to select one. Majority of Sunnis believe that any person can be a Khlifah as far as he is able to get the power by any way even by killing the previous Khalifah and sitting in his place.

4-Divine Leadership (Imamah):

There are plenty of very authentic evidences from Quran and authentic Sunnah that the Prophet (sawa) has not left the Ummah without perfect leadership after him. He has said many times in accordance to Allah’s orders that the leader after him will be Imam Ali followed by the infallible Imams from Ahlul Bayt . These evidences are mentioned even in famous Sunni books where they narrated the Prophetic Hadeeth stating that ( The Khalifas after me will be twelve all of them from Quraish) or ( The Imams after me will be twelve, all of them from Quraish).(Saheeh Al-Bukhari vol.9 p.541 and Saheeh Muslim vol.3 p. 1452 ).They also admitted Hadeeth Al-Thaqalain stating (I am leaving behind two greatest things, that you will never go astray as far as you keep following both of them; The book of Allah, And my Ahlul Bayt)Saheeh Muslim vol.4, p.1874, Sunan Al-Tirmithi vol.5, p.662, al-Mustadrak by Al-Haakim vol.3, p.109, Musnad Ahmad Bin Hanbal vol.3, p.14,Tafseer Ibn Katheer vol.4, p.114, Tafseer Al-Durr Al- Manthoor by Soyooti vol.5, p.702 and many others.

Following Quran and Ahlul-Bayt who teach the real Sunnah and have the real Tafseer of Qur’an, is the belief and practice of the followers of Ahlul-Bayt(as) who are known by Shia Muslims. They are in fact following Allah’s orders by following the ligitimate Islamic leadership, and getting themselves saved from going astray.

5-Saqeefa followers:

Other Muslims who are known as Sunni Muslims do not believe in the immediate leadership of Ahlul-Bayt(as) after the Prophet(sawa) and claim that the Prophet (sawa) has left the Ummah without any specific sytem for leadership, though many of them claim it as Shoora(election).Shoora in fact is applicable in managing wordly affairs, but never in religious affairs, as no Prophet came through election,so how Prophet’s successor can come through election?. It is only Allah(swt) who knows who is the best to lead mankind, and He appoints him.

Shoora was an excuse to justify bypassing the Quranic and Prophetic orders stating the leadership of Imam Ali .Those who claimed Shoora were trying to ligitimize the incident of Saqeefa which brought Abu Bakr’s government, but such claim can not justify why Abu Bakr himself appointed Umar as a Khalifa after him and did not leave the Muslims to elect a khalifa by Shoora as it was claimed by Sunnis as if it was done by the Prophet (sawa). Why they accept Abu Bakr appointing Umar After him and do not accept the Prophet(sawa) appointing Ali after Him? Knowing that the Prophet’s statements are from Allah(swt), while Abu Bakr’s statements were from himself.

In Saqeefa few people from Quraish led by Umar Bin al-khattab and Abu Bakr Bin Abi Quhafa along with few from Ansaar, gathered and argued and even quarelled, then Umar proposed the name of Abu Bakr to be Khalifa, in the absence of Imam Ali who was busy in the preparation of the funeral of the Prophet (sawa). Ahlul-Bayt and leading Sahaba like Imam Ali ,Salman Al-Farisi,Ammaar Bin Yaser, Abu Thar Al-Ghifari,Al-Miqdaad Bin Al-Aswad, Al-Abbas Bin Abdul-Muttalib uncle of the Prophet(sawa) and others refused the outcome of Saqeefa which was against the orders of the Prophet (sawa) who told the Ummah in many occasions that Ali is the leader after Him.Those who accepted Saqeefa are called now Sunni Muslims, where those who followed the divine leadership of Ahlul-Bayt(as) are called Shia Muslims.

6-Prophetic Statements on The Real Leaders after him:

The Prophetic statements and Hadeeths support the fact of the leadership of Imam Ali(as) and Ahlul-Bayt after the Prophet(sawa). Many of these Hadeeths are narrated in main Sunni references, so must be accepted by all Muslims. Here are Just few examples:-

A) The Prophetic Hadeeth stating: (O Ali, you are the leader who will lead my Ummah to the right path when they differ after me)(Al-Mustadrak Alal Saheehain by Al-Haakim Al-Neesaboori vol.3 page 122, Kanz Al-Ummaal vol.6 page 156, Tareekh Dimishq ,Biography of Imam Ali, vol.2, p.488).

B)The Prophetic Hadeeth:(O Ali, your status from me is as the status of Haroon from Moosa, but there will be no prophet after me).Quran states that Haroon was always the Khalifa and deputy of Moosa till the end of Haroon’s life. This Hadeeth was narrated in many Sunni sources such as Saheeh Al-Bukhari vol.5, p.280, Saheeh Muslim vol.4, p.1870,Sunan Al-Tirmithi vol.5, p.638, Musnad Ahmad Bin Hanbal vol.1, p.170, Al-Mustadrak by Al-Haakim vol.3, p.109, Sunan Ibn Maajah vol.1, p.42 and many others. This Hadeeth is well known in the Islamic books as Hadeeth Al-Manzilah.(The Hadeeth of The Status).

C)The Prophetic Hadeeth This,Ali, is my brother,my trustee, and my Khalifa(deputy) on you, so listen to him and obey him.)(Musnad Ahmad Bin Hanbal vol.1, p.111, Tafseer Ibn Katheer vol.3, p.352, Tareekh Dimishq by Ibn Asaakir Imam Ali biography vol.1, p.99, Shawaahid Al-Tanzeel by Al-Hasakaani vol.1, p.371, Al–Khasaa’is by Al-Nisaa’ee p.24, Al-Kaamil Fil Taareekh by Ibn Al-Atheer vol.2 p.41,and many others. This Haddeth is well known as Hadeeth Al-Daar.(The Hadeeth of the House).

D)Hadeeth Al-Ghadeer when the Prophet (sawa) said infront of thousands of Sahaba after asking them whether they accept him as a master on them more than themselves on themselves, and their reply as : Yes, then he announced that: (For whomsoever I am the master(leader), Ali is his master(leader), O Allah, support him who follows Ali and be enemy of him who becomes enemy of Ali).Sunan Ibn Maajah vol.1, p.43, Sunan Al-Tirmithi vol.5, p.633, Musnad Ahmad Bin Hanbal vol.1, p.84, Al-Mustadrak by Al-Haakim vol.3, p.109,Al-Bidayah Wal-Nihaayah by Ibn Katheer vol.5, p.209, Tafseer Al-Durr Al-Manthoor by Soyooti vol.2, p.519, Shawaahid Al-Tanzeel by Al-Hasakaani vol.1, p.157, Tareekh Al-Khulafaa by Soyooti p.200,Al-Khasaa’is by Al-Nisaa’ee p.28 and many others.

E)The Prophetic Hadeeth stating O Ali you are from me and I am from you) Saheeh Al-Bukhari vol.5, p.278, as well as the Prophetic Hadeeth stating Ali is from me and I am from him, and he is the leader of every believer after me) Sunan Al-Tirmithi vol.5, p.632, Al-Mustadrak by Al-Haakim vol.3, p.110, Al-Manaaqib by Ibn Al-Maghaazili Al-Shaafi’ee p.152, Al-Khasaa’is by Al-Nisaa’ee p.25. and many others.

F)The Prophetic Hadeeth:(Whosoever believed in me and had faith that I brought the truth, must follow Ali Ibn Abi Talib, because following Ali is following me, and following me is following Allah) Muntakhab Kanz Al-Ummaal with Munad Ahmad vol.5, p.32, Tareekh Dimishq by Ibn Asaakir Biography of Imam Ali vol.2, p.91.

7- Where Is The Real Sunnah?

All Muslims claim following the Prophetic Sunnah, but the majority of such claims are clearly baseless with the vast differences and contradictions between many Islamic sects in faith and practice, keeping in mind that the Prophet’s Sunnah can not contardict itself. The differences are based on different Hadeeths stating different statements in the same matter and situation. These are the fabricated Hadeeths which were made to meet wordly benefits of certain people or governments or groups etc. The fabricating of Hadeeths started during the time of the Prophet (sawa) and was so much that He declared on the pulpit that :Lying on me has become so much, beware , whosoever lies on me deliberately should be sure of his place in the fire.

No doubt, Hadeeth fabricating was much more after the departure of the Prophet (sawa) since many governors like Mu’awiyah and Hajjaj and many others were paying money to fabricators like Abu Hurairah and many others.Hundreds of thousands of fabricated Hadeeths were mentioned in the books and on pulpits to please the governors or to oppose their opponants.Sunni Ulama’ admit this unfortunate fact.

The big question for all Muslims who really want to follow the Prophet (sawa) is : from where can we get the real Sunnah and be away from the fabricated Hadeeths?

The most authentic source for getting the real Sunnah are Ahlul-Bayt , not only because they were living with Him most of the time, but also because their highest degree in truthfullness and nobleness, beside the Prophetic statements that (I am the city of knowledge and Ali is it’s gate, so, whosoever wants the city must come through it’s gate.)(Al-Mustadrak by Al-Haakim vol.3, p.126, Shawaahid Al-Tanzeel by Al-Hasakaani vol.1, p.81 Hadeeth no. 118, Al-Jaami’ Al-Sagheer by Soyooti vol.1, p.108 and many others).

Following the Quran and Ahlul-Bayt means taking the Prophetic Sunnah from Ahlul-Bayt(as) and leaving anything away from them.If all Muslims follow the real Sunnah, there will be no disputes or differences among them, because of the fact that One Prophet’s Sunnah is just One Sunnah which leads all into The One Islam.

The followers of Ahlul-Bayt take the Real Sunnah from the most authentic sources who are Ahlul-Bayt and the authentic Sahaba, while the followers of other Islamic sects take their religion from sources which are never strong and authentic as Ahlul-Bayt .

So, these are the main two differences between Shia Muslims and Sunni Muslims:

– Islamic leadership from Allah(swt)? or from anybody else? Shia believe it from Allah(swt).

-From where to get the Real Sunnah? Shia take it from the most authentic sources who are Ahlul-Bayt(as) and authentic Sahaba.

May Allah (swt) guide and keep all of us on the sraight path of the Prophet (sawa) and Ahlul-Bayt .

Iran Makes the Sciences A Part of Its Revolution…By Thomas Erdbrink

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/06/05/AR2008060503904_pf.html

Washington Post Foreign Service –  Friday, June 6, 2008; A01

TEHRAN — As Burton Richter, an American Nobel laureate in physics, entered the main auditorium of Tehran’s prestigious Sharif University, hundreds of students rose to give him a loud and lengthy ovation. But Richter, wearing a white suit and leaning on a cane, said he was the one who should be awed.

“The students here are very impressive,” Richter said, lauding the high level of education at Sharif. “I expect to hear a lot more from you all in the future.”

The students, young men and women with laptops and smart briefcases, giggled in their seats. A woman took pictures of the Stanford professor emeritus, whose visit last month was part of a privately funded academic program run by the National Academies of the United States and universities in Iran.

“Mr. Richter is an example for us,” explained Ismael Hosseini, a 23-year-old electrical engineering student who had managed to get a seat near the stage. “But soon I will be able to listen to an Iranian scientist who has received a Nobel Prize for his or her work,” he said. “We are all studying and researching hard to receive this honor.”

Iran’s determination to develop what it says is a nuclear energy program is part of a broader effort to promote technological self-sufficiency and to see Iran recognized as one of the world’s most advanced nations. The country’s leaders, who three decades ago wrested the government away from a ruler they saw as overly dependent on the West, invest heavily in scientific and industrial achievement, but critics say government backing is sometimes erratic, leaving Iran’s technological promise unfulfilled.

Still, Iranian scientists claim breakthroughs in nanotechnology, biological researchers are pushing the boundaries of stem cell research and the country’s car industry produces more cars than anywhere else in the region.

“Iran wants to join the group of countries that want to know about the biggest things, like space,” Richter said to the students during his speech at Sharif University, which draws many of the country’s best students. Every year, 1.5 million young Iranians take a national university entrance exam, or “concours.” Of the 500,000 who pass and are entitled to free higher education, only the top 800 can attend Sharif, considered Iran’s MIT.

At Sharif, students work in fields including aerospace and nanotechnology. While some end up advancing Iran’s nuclear program or finding work in other technological fields in Iran, many, especially PhD candidates, are lured by employers or universities in Australia, Canada and the United States.

“Our visitors are flabbergasted when they come to our modern laboratories and see women PhD students. Often they had a completely different image of Iran, not as an academic country,” said Abdolhassan Vafai, a professor at Sharif. “Here, we educate our students to solve problems that affect all humanity, like hunger, global warming and water shortages.”

But in Iran, scientists are also expected to serve ideological goals. Iran’s leaders hold up their inventions as proof that the country’s 1979 revolution has made it independent and self-sufficient.

When President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad opened Iran’s first space center in February, he issued a launch order sending a test missile into space and proclaimed that “no power can overcome Iran’s will.”

Iran hopes to launch its second satellite — the first was launched commercially by a Russian company — within weeks, using a locally made rocket. Iran’s advances in this field cannot be independently verified.

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has encouraged scientific breakthroughs for geopolitical reasons. “If you are in pursuit of a science, you bring dissatisfaction and displeasure to the enemy of the revolution’s aspirations,” Khamenei said during a visit to Iran’s stem cell research center in 2006.

In 1979, revolutionaries accused Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the country’s U.S.-backed autocrat, of having made Iran dependent on other states for technology, military equipment and industrial hardware.

During the Iran-Iraq war of the 1980s, the country faced an enemy supported by superpowers that isolated Iran. Squadrons of U.S.-made F-4 fighter jets were grounded because of U.S. sanctions that barred Iran’s access to spare parts.

“In the war, the whole world was against us. We learned that we had to stand on our own two feet,” said Manoucher Manteqi, chief executive of Iran’s largest carmaker, Iran Khodro. The state-run company produced more than 600,000 cars in 2007 and has no equivalent in the Middle East. India’s Tata Motors produced just over 400,000 vehicles in 2007; French automaker Peugeot Citroen — with which Iran Khodro has a joint venture — makes about 3.5 million vehicles a year worldwide.

“The sanctions forced us to use our full potential. We are now commercializing what we learned back then,” explained Manteqi, who wore a worker’s coat to show unity with his assembly-line colleagues during an interview in March.

Iranians worry about the impact of U.N. sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program. “They will lead to limitations in our cooperation with other countries,” Manteqi said. “But they also mean that others cannot use Iran’s potential, like foreign carmakers we want to cooperate with. Iran needs 1.5 million cars a year — this is an interesting market. Under sanctions, we might have to do things ourselves, but we are used to that.”

“If the West refuses Iran nuclear technology, it means they might pressure us in the future over development of other technologies,” said Nasser Aghdami of the Royan stem cell institute in Tehran. The state-sponsored facility does research on human embryonic stem cells. “Our religious authorities have decided that we can do research on fetuses until 4 months old,” he explained.

“We exchange information with scientists in the U.S. I feel science should be above politics,” Aghdami said.

But when he wanted to order a new ultracentrifuge machine needed for research, he found that his foreign counterparts weren’t allowed to send the equipment to Iran because it was considered “dual use” — technology that could be applied to Iran’s nuclear program. The nuclear centrifuges that Iran produces cannot be used for stem cell research.

“This shows that we still need a lot of willpower to achieve our goal,” Aghdami said. Iranian stem cell scientists are already involved in efforts to reprogram skin cells into embryonic cells in order to bypass ethical problems, he said. “Only three other countries — Germany, the U.S. and Japan — are involved in this. We are proud to compete with the best.”

Persia, as Iran was known until the 19th century, made discoveries in the natural sciences, mathematics and philosophy. After the Arab-Islamic invasion in the 7th century, Persian scientists developed medical alcohol and made important contributions in algebra and chemistry.

“Everybody wants their kids to study here. Step into a taxi in Tehran and the driver will tell you this is his second job to support his kids in university,” said Hashem Rafii-Tabar, a professor at a research institute in Tehran. He returned to his homeland six years ago to set up a department for nanotechnology for a consortium of nine Iranian universities. His students are making conceptual designs for nanodevices that can identify and destroy individual cancer cells.

“We have high ambitions,” Rafii-Tabar explained. “Already we are the number one in nanotechnology in the region, maybe only equaled by Israel. Iran produces more papers on this subject in international scientific indexed publications than any other country in the region. However, Iran has not yet submitted patents, official new inventions. Its regional competitors have also not reached this stage.”

The Iranian government supports the nanotechnology project. Last month a nanotechnology supercomputing center was opened, financed by the government.

Rafii-Tabar observed that science projects in Iran often take off with a flying start but later run aground. “When a new field of research comes to Iran, it incubates, goes on to be taught at the famous universities, but revolutions and changes of government have stopped projects in the past,” he said. “We used to be big in IT, but we still need foreign software for our ATM machines.”

At Iran Khodro’s factory west of Tehran, the day shift had just ended. But Manteqi, the CEO, was not leaving. “I should work harder than everyone else, because many things still go wrong,” he explained with a smile. “As the late Ayatollah Khomeini said: ‘If we want it, we can do it.’ We have more experts and professionals in Iran than in any of the neighboring countries. If they are managed properly, we can fulfill our ambitions. Iran can do this in cooperation with the rest of the world, but, if needed, we can also do it by ourselves.”

The Father, the Son And the Donkey!!!

Different people have different perception. One man’s meat could be another man’s poison.

Once Luqman (as), The Wise said to his son, “Oh son! Do not tie your heart in seeking the pleasure of people. You are not likely to succeed. Do not pay attention to what people say. Instead tell yourself always to seek the pleasure of Allah (SWT).”

Luqman (as), The Wise wanted this lesson to be always remembered and never to be forgotten. He thought of a way. So, he then told his son to ride a donkey and the son obeyed. The father followed behind on foot. They traveled in this way for some distance.

After some distance they came across a group of people. Seeing the son on the donkey, one of them said, “What an impolite and bad boy. The old father is walking on foot. The young son is comfortably riding on the donkey. This is no manner to show respect to one’s father.”

Father and son heard this. The son came down from the donkey. Luqman (as), The Wise rode on the donkey.

After some distance they came across another group of people. On seeing the father riding the donkey, the elder of the group said, “Oh you old man! This is not the way to bring up a son. You make him walk in the hot sun, while you sit comfortably on the donkey.”

Luqman (as), The Wise paid attention to what the people said. He came down from the donkey. Both father and son walked on foot. The donkey walked in front. They went a little further.

People seeing them, said, “How foolish you are? You walk behind a donkey. Why don’t you ride it?”

Luqman (as), The Wise and his son once again accepted what the people said. They both rode the donkey and went further.

They came across a river. There was a bridge to be crossed. Some people were sitting there. They saw Luqman (as), The Wise and his son riding the donkey.

One of them said, “It is very unkind and cruel of you two to ride on the poor donkey. The little animal can hardly take all your burden.”

So taking this advice Luqman (as), The Wise and his son dismounted from the donkey. They traveled a little distance further.

Looking very lovingly Luqman (as), The Wise said to his son, “You have heard and seen what the people said. It must have assured you, by now, that whatever you do or whichever way you move, one is not able to please the people of the world. You can never have everyone praise you, nor will everyone condemn you. Never in the past, not at present, and never will be in the future”.

Luqman (as), The Wise pointed at the flowing river and added, “A person can build a wall across the river. It will stop the flow of the water. But it is not possible to shut the mouth of the people from criticism.”

Very clearly, similar is the case in our world today. The tongue has no bone. It can speak even without thought. There are as many opinions as there are people in the world. It is very bad to find fault with the other person, especially when he is doing something good. A person can feel very hurt when he listens to all the tongues that talk loose. To avoid getting hurt by loose talk, a person can train himself. He can discipline himself to think.

By thinking he can know what is wrong and void. When a person is sure that what he is doing will please his Master, Allah (SWT) the Almighty, then he must never worry what others speak.

Thus, do not be too bothered by others words if your conscience is clear.

20th Rajab – Wiladat of Bibi Sakina (s.a)

Name :

Sakina ( also known in Arab world as Rukkaya)

Father :
Imam Hussain (a.s.)
Mother :
Bibi Umm-e-Rubab (a.s.)
Birth :
20th of Rajab
Death :
10th Safar, at Damascus, Syria

In the Arab world, the youngest daughter of Imam Hussain (a.s.) is know as Bibi Rukkaya (s.a) whereas she is know as Bibi Sakina (s.a) in rest of the Islamic World. We will refer to her as Bibi Sakina (s.a).  She was the youngest daughter of Imam Hussain (a.s.). She was a vivacious child, full of love and happiness. Everyone loved Bibi Sakina (s.a). She was also a very religious girl. She enjoyed reading the Holy Quran and never missed her prayers. From the age of two she took great care to make sure that her head and face were properly covered when in public.

Bibi Sakina (s.a) was Imam Hussain’s (a.s.) most beloved child. Our Imam (a.s.) used to pray for a daughter in his night prayers and the birth of Bibi Sakina (a.s.) was a result of those prayers. Imam (a.s.) was often heard to say, “A house without Sakina (s.a) would not be worth living in!” She always had a sweet and cheerful smile and a very friendly nature. Other children sought her company as much as the grown ups did. She was very generous and always shared whatever she had with others.

There was a special bond between Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) and Bibi Sakina (s.a). He loved her more than he did his own children. If Bibi Sakina (s.a) requested for anything, Abbas (a.s.) would not rest until he satisfied her request. There was nothing that Abbas (a.s.) would not do to make Bibi Sakina (a.s.) happy. During the journey from Madina to Makkah and then Makkah to Kerbala, Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) was often seen riding up to the mehmil in which Bibi Sakina (s.a) sat to make sure that she had everything she wanted. Bibi Sakina (s.a) loved her uncle just as much. While in Madina she would, several times a day, visit the house in which Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) lived with his family and his mother, Bibi Ummul Baneen (s.a).

Like any other four-five year old when Bibi Sakina (s.a) went to bed at night she wanted to spend some time with her father. Imam Hussain (a.s.) would tell her stories of the Prophets (s.a.w.s) and of the battles fought by her grand-father Imam Ali (a.s.). She would rest her head on her father’s chest and Imam Hussain (a.s.) would not move from her until she fell asleep.

When from the second of Muharram the armies of Yazid began to gather at Kerbala, Imam Hussain (a.s.) said to his sister Bibi Zainab (s.a.), “The time has come for you to get Sakina (s.a) used to going to sleep without my being there !”. Bibi Sakina (s.a) would follow her father at night and Imam Hussain (a.s.) had to gently take her to Bibi Zainab (s.a.) or Bibi Rubaab (s.a) – her mother. At Kerbala when from the seventh Muharram, access to water was blocked by the army of Yazid and water became scarce Bibi Sakina (s.a) shared whatever little water she had with other children. When soon there was no water at all, the thirsty children would look at Bibi Sakina (s.a) hopefully, and because she could not help them she would have tears in her eyes. Bibi Sakina (s.a)’s lips were parched with thirst.

On the day of Ashura – the 10th of Muharram, she gave her mashk to Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) to get some water for her and the children. When Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) went to fetch water, the children gathered round Bibi Sakina (s.a) with their little cups, knowing that as soon as Hazrat Abbas (a.s.) brought any water, Bibi Sakina (s.a) would first make sure that they had some before taking any herself. When Bibi Sakina (s.a) saw Imam Hussain (a.s.) bringing the blood drenched ‘alam she knew that her uncle Abbas (a.s.) had been martyred. From that day on Bibi Sakina (a.s.) never complained of thirst. Bibi Sakina (s.a) never again asked anyone for water. Bibi Zainab (s.a.) would persuade her to take a few sips, but she herself would never ask for water or complain of thirst.

Then came the time when the earth shook and Bibi Sakina (s.a) became an orphan! But even then she always thought of the others first. She would console her mother on the death of Ali Asghar (a.s.) – her 6-month old brother – and when she saw any other lady or child weeping Bibi Sakina (s.a) would put her little arms around her. From the time when Imam Hussain (a.s.) was martyred in the battle field, Bibi Sakina (s.a) forgot to smile! Kufa saw her as a little girl lost in thought. Quite often she would sit up at night. When asked if she wanted anything, she would say, “I just heard a baby cry? Is it Asghar? He must be calling out for me!” Knowing that her weeping upset her mother, Bibi Sakina (s.a) would cry silently and quickly wipe away her tears! In the prison in Damascus she would stare at the flock of birds flying to their nests at sunset and innocently ask Bibi Zainab (s.a.), “Will Sakina ever be going home like those birds flying to their homes?”

Then one dreadful night Bibi Sakina (s.a) went to bed on the cold floor of the prison. For a long time she stared into the darkness as if she was saying goodbye to this world! She never woke up again.  The whole prison was filled with grief when they heard Imam Zain-ul-Abideen (a.s.) say: “INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAYHI RAAJI’OON!”

How was Bibi Sakina (s.a) buried ? Bibi Zainab (s.a.) held the still child as Imam Zain-ul-Abideen (a.s.) dug a grave in the cell. As the grave was being filled up after the burial the mother let out a scream! How could anyone console Bibi Rubaab (s.a)? What could they say? They huddled around her, and the prison walls began to shake with the cry: “Ya Bibi Sakina (s.a), YA MAZLOOMAH!!” Bibi Rubaab (s.a) put her cheek on Bibi Sakina’s (s.a) grave and cried out: “Speak to me, Sakina! Only a word, my child! Speak to me!!”                                                                                                                                                                                                         Courtesy – From: Shabbir Tharia

Life's Lesson

Letter to Antony Thomas…by Sayyed-Mohammad Musawi – World Ahlul Bayt Islamic League (WABIL)

Dear Mr Antony Thomas
This is regarding your film (The Quran) which was broadcasted on 14 July 2008 on Channel 4.
We hoped that the film being a documentary and not a novel, will give a fair idea to viewers who do not know Quran and misunderstand Muslims, but we were really upset with the film, as it was not only away from being objective, but it was in fact misinforming and misleading.
We have gone through the film and found it full of  statements which can be easily proven wrong and baseless. It took the Wahabi understanding of Quran, which is condemned by most of Muslim scholars, as a base to understand and explain Quranic verses. If you had done a little of research, you would have seen that majority of Sunni Muslims believe and visit religious shrines in Egypt, Syria, Morocco, Lebanon, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia.Africa and almost every country where Muslims live, so, how do you claim that seeking intervetion is against Quran?
This claim of yours is exactly what Taliban and Al Qaeda terrorist groups are claiming, and it is against the scholarly meaning of Quran,  in which we read that Mulsims are asked to seek forgiveness through the intervention of the Apostle.(4:64)
You have made judgements, on Quranic meanings and religious issues, with out real research, and depended on what was told to you by biased persons who wanted to impose their wrong understanding on your film. The result is a misleading film which is condemned by Millions of persons who know the subject well.
We are really sorry to see this film being made by a person from whom we had a hope, but still we do not loose hope that you will do every thing possible to rectify the serious mistakes in it.
Will you have the courage to rectify?
We hope so.
With regards.
Sayyed-Mohammad Musawi
