07 – English Lecture: Do the Shia believe in a different Quran – Sayed Ammar Nakshawani – Ramazan 1433

#ImamAli (as) on our behavior in #Ramadhan month:

Imam Ali (as): “…O you who are fasting, reflect on your affair, for surely you are a guest of your Lord in this month; observe how your attitude is during the night and day, and how you protect the members of your body from disobeying your Lord; and make sure that you do not sleep through the night and be heedless during the day, so that your month ends while your burden still remains on your shoulders, such that when the fasting ones are paid their due, you are among the losers, and while they enjoy prosperity in the neighborhood of their Lord, you are from the expelled ones…”

Iraq
Iraq Insurgents Kill at Least 100 After Declaring New Offensive
New York Times, Yasir Ghazi
July 23, 2012

Al Qaeda in Iraq carried out one of the most coordinated and baldly sectarian series of attacks in years on Monday, July 23. They were aiming for Shiite targets with car bombs, checkpoint ambushes, and assaults on a military base. The offensive by the Sunni extremist group left at least 100 people dead in what the Iraqi authorities described as an ambitiously staged sequence of 40 attacks across the country. In a 33-minute speech posted online on Sunday, Abu Bakir al-Baghdadi, the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, promised that a new offensive called Breaking Down Walls, would begin soon. He described the impending campaign as part of a battle by Sunnis against Iraq’s Shiite leaders and people. The offensive, coming in the early days of Ramadan, was without precedent over the past few years.

Bahrain
Bahrainis slam ban on protest rallies
Tehran Times
July 14,2012

The Al Khalifa regime in Bahrain has imposed a ban on all demonstrations, blocking the streets in the villages of Dair and Sitra using burning tires. Furthermore, Saudi-backed regime forces fired tear gas to disperse the protesters who have started to flood the streets in several villages in protest of the unfair ban on peaceful rallies for democracy and justice. Amnesty International has criticized Bahrain for banning opposition rallies, urging Manama to allow peaceful protests.Although Bahraini authorities claim that the move is aimed at preventing disruption to traffic and street violence, the opposition describes it as a new attempt to silence them. Opposition groups, including al-Wefaq party, have called for rallies across the country to protest the ban. Bahrainis have been staging demonstrations since mid-February 2011, demanding political reform and a constitutional monarchy, a demand that later changed to an outright call for the ouster of the ruling Al Khalifa family following its brutal crackdown on peaceful protests. Scores of people have been killed and many others have been injured in the Saudi-backed crackdown on peaceful protesters in Bahrain.

Bahrain has reportedly arrested a Shiite man falsely suspected of what it calls “terror attacks” in the kingdom as the government continues its brutal crackdown on popular and peaceful protests against discrimination. Public security chief Major General Tariq al-Hassan has announced the arrest of supposed suspect Hussain Isa Mohammed Isa Adam, who Bahraini authorities falsely accuse of throwing petrol bombs at Saudi-backed regime forces during the anti-regime demonstrations near the capital, Manama. Hussain is among twenty people wanted by Bahraini police for carrying out bombing attacks. He is the sixth suspect on the list to be detained.

Pakistan
Pakistan Mine kills 14 Shiites
Huffington Post, Munir Ahmed
July 18, 2012

A van carrying minority Shiite Muslims hit an anti-tank land mine in northwestern Pakistan on Wednesday, killing 14 passengers in what police described as the country’s latest sectarian attack. Eight members of one family, including three women and three children, were among those killed in the blast on the outskirts of Kohat city, said police official Naeem Khan. “It was a terrorist act. It apparently seems to be a sectarian incident,” Khan said, adding that it was unclear who had buried the mine that hit the minibus. Sunni militants in the region, including the Pakistani Taliban, have carried out attacks against Shiites in Orakzai and the neighboring Kurram tribal area. They have used anti-tank land mines in past attacks, said Khan.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency
July 14, 2012

Sipah-e-Sahaba, a Wahhabi terrorist group, martyred Rehmad Ali, a Shia Muslim in Quetta city on Thursday. The next day in Karachi, Sipah-e-Sahaba martyred Yousuf Khan, another innocent Shia Muslim. Shia leaders have condemned these brutal murders and the genocide of Shia Muslims in Quetta. They have demanded that an operation against the terrorists be launched as soon as possible so that the deaths of these innocent lives do not continue to occur. In the recent week, another 4 Shia Muslims were martyred by the Wahhabi terrorists of Sipah-e-Sahaba in Pakistan.

Saudi Arabia
Bombs thrown near Saudi court in Shia-populated east
Ahram Online
July 15, 2012

Gasoline bombs were thrown during the night by unknown attackers at a parking lot of a Saudi Arabian court in the kingdom’s Shia-populated east, an official and witnesses said on Sunday. The bombs were thrown in the parking lot outside the compound of the court in Qatif district, setting the plastic shades that covered the area on fire. Qatif witnessed several protests triggered in February 2011 after an outbreak of violence between Shiite pilgrims and religious police in the holy city of Medina. These sporadic protests escalated after the kingdom led a force of Gulf troops into neighboring Bahrain to help crush a peaceful Shia-led uprising last year against Bahrain’s Sunni monarchy and it’s discriminating behavior toward the majority Bahraini Shiite population. Some 37 Shia clerics released a joint statement on Friday in which they urged youths to “steer away from violence” and not to “respond to some who try to provoke you and lure you to violence to mark your movement as terrorist.”

Fabricating terror evidence against innocent Muslim student

Police admit fabricating terror evidence against innocent Muslim studentPolice admit fabricating terror evidence against innocent Muslim student

By Elham Asaad Buaras

Documents released under the Freedom of Information Act has revealed that the police had made up evidence against a Muslim university student from the University of Nottingham who was detained without charge in August 2008 as a terror suspect. In yet another revelation, The Muslim News has seen a document in which a former counter-terror chief says that the same student would have been charged today under resolved terror laws.

The document from West Midlands polices internal investigation concluded that officers made-up key parts of the case against Rizwaan Sabir who spent seven days in prison before being released without charge for downloading a manual available from a US Government website and most reputable online book retailers.

Sabir was researching his Masters on terrorism in 2008 when he downloaded an al-Qaida training manual. It was for that act alone that Sabir was detained under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000 on suspicion of being involved in the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism.

In another document exclusively obtained by The Muslim News the former Head of West Midlands Counter-Terrorism Unit admits that the Crown Prosecution Service did not charge Sabir at the time due to a now defunct technicality.

In a meeting held last August Det Chief Supt Matt Sawers told a University of Warwick researcher that Sabir was not charged because at the time there was significant uncertainty due to other cases involving Section 58 of Terrorism Act 2006.

Today those issues have been resolved and were the incident to occur again, charges would be brought under similar circumstances, said Sawers.

Sabir told The Muslim News he was flabbergasted by Sawers confession.

The law has now been cleared up; the police could charge me as a terrorist. This is irrespective of the fact that I am an innocent person, it showed that the police are not interested in a persons innocence or guilt when they are accused of being a terrorist, Sabir said.

The internal investigation into the affair was launched after a complaint by a former lecturer at the University of Nottingham Department of Politics and International Relations over the polices handing of the case.

The polices internal investigation concluded that officers made up what he [Dr Rod Thornton] said about the al-Qaida manual in a police interview.

During the interview Thornton said that he told police that Sabir was studying al-Qaida, but says that officers invented claims that he had concerns over the manual in an apparent attempt to justify the arrest.

It also states that the actual minutes of the Gold Group meeting of the detectives assigned to the case incorrectly recorded their conversation with Thornton.

Internal notes from the Gold Group meeting on May 17 2008 actually reveal police quoting Dr Thornton as believing the manual was a tactical document and could not be considered relevant to Sabirs academic research into terrorism.

Dr Thornton has now referred the police treatment of him to the Independent Police Complaint Commission (IPPC). The Police Standards Board, however, says that no officers will be investigated for misconduct.

Dr Thornton said: The police were totally unprofessional. After their mistakes they tried to cover them up. Ive seen some altered police notes, Ive seen evidence made up. The whole thing seems to be a complete tissue of lies, starting from the cover up of their mistakes in the first place.

A spokesman for the IPCC confirmed to The Muslim News that they have received an appeal from Dr Thornton in relation to the West Midlands Police investigation into his complaint and are presently gathering material to consider the appeal.

The IPCC clarified that their role would be restricted to reviewing the manner in which the police carried out the investigation to consider whether it was done appropriately, rather than re-investigate the complaint itself.

West Midland police Chief Inspector, Julian Harper, from the forces Professional Standards Department, said: The complaints were thoroughly investigated by West Midlands Polices Professional Standards Department and a detailed report of the findings was sent to the complainant on March 26.

While certain aspects of his complaint were upheld, investigating officers found there was no case to answer in respect of misconduct.

As is standard practice, we advised the complainant that he could appeal this decision through the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

As he has chosen to take this course of action, it would be inappropriate for us to comment any further while the IPCC carry out their assessment.

Sabir said West Midland Police conclusion that fabricated evidence does not warrant any disciplinary action was an indictment of a culture of impunity for police in the UK.

Its a simple reinforcement of the fact that UK police can go around doing as they wish without ever being held to account, he said.

Sabir said trust between the Muslim community and the police would be reinstated only after the Home Secretary and the Policing Minister supported the findings of an independent inquiry into the case.

He also called for an apology to Dr Thornton and himself by West Midlands Police and Nottinghamshire Police for the way we have both been treated.

The latest revelations have spread into other high profile terror cases involving British Muslims.

Britains longest detained without charge prisoner Babar Ahmad, tweeted to Sabir: they [the police] made it up for you & in my case, sent it to US. We are both British Muslims detained w/o charge, you for 1wk, me for 8yrs.

Britain and providing support for Muslim women-Islam & life-12-29-2011

http://www.presstv.com/Program/218487.html

Recent research by Swansea and Leicester show that there is a growing number of women convert to Islam in Britain.

But the research also shows that the young, white British women who are converting to Islam, report a lack of help as they get used to their new religion.

Despite the negative portrayal of Islam in the Western press, recent research shows that converts to Islam are in increase.

During the last ten years about 100,000 British people converted to Islam, of whom some three-quarters are women, according to the latest statistics. This is a significant increase on the 60,000 Britons in the previous decade, according to researchers based at Swansea University.

In this edition of the show we ask the following question: Does British society provide enough support for women converts to Islam?
